Biosecurity Officer (Weeds)

Temporary Full-time Opportunity - Until May 2026 
Work 38 Hours a Week + Rostered Day Off Every Fortnight
Salary Range: $84,038.76 - $97,666.40 + 11.5% Superannuation per annum (Depending on Skills and Qualifications)

The Role

The Biosecurity Officer position is responsible for actively engaging with land managers, conducting site inspections, interpreting regulations, managing projects, providing expert advice, and promoting community education regarding biosecurity weed management. The position supports the Team Leader Bushcare and Biosecurity and Manager Environment and Sustainability in achieving service delivery outcomes and driving cultural change.

Essential Criteria

1. Qualifications in Horticulture, Agriculture, Conservation and Ecosystem Management, or equivalent field, or a minimum of three years' experience in Natural Resource Management or Agriculture.
2. Chemical User Accreditation (e.g., ChemCert AQF III).
3. Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing strategic priority weed programs, policies, and operational work plans.
4. Previous operational delivery experience of priority weed programs, including grant administration and high-level project management.
5. Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, particularly the Biosecurity Act and Pesticides Act, with the ability to negotiate Biosecurity directions and undertakings.
6. Demonstrated experience in invasive weed inspections, identification, and recommendation of control methods on properties and targeted incursion pathways.
7. Experience in treating and managing weed infestations.
8. Resilience to work pressures, analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
9. Be willing to undertake a pre-employment medical prior to commencement
