Opening late 2026, the new Canterbury Leisure & Aquatic Centre is set to become the heart of health, fitness and fun in our community.

As we prepare for opening, we are looking to expand our team of passionate and qualified Wellness Instructors, particularly those specialising in Pilates, Reformer, Yoga and other recognised wellness programs, to deliver engaging and high-quality classes across our Leisure and Aquatic centres. The formal position title for these opportunities at CBCity is Wellness Instructor.

The role

As a Wellness Instructor, you will deliver high-quality group fitness and wellness classes that support our members to improve their health, fitness and wellbeing in a safe, inclusive and motivating environment.

Depending on your qualifications and area of expertise, you may deliver programs including:

• Reformer Pilates
• Mat Pilates
• Yoga
• Zumba
• Other recognised group fitness and wellness programs

We welcome applications from instructors who specialise in a particular discipline, as well as multi-skilled instructors who are qualified to deliver across multiple program areas.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

• Deliver engaging, safe and inclusive group fitness and wellness classes in line with Council programs and relevant industry standards.
• Provide clear instruction, demonstrations and appropriate modifications to support participants of varying abilities and experience levels.
• Support and motivate members throughout their health, fitness and wellbeing journey.
• Build positive relationships with members and create a welcoming and inclusive class environment.
• Maintain clean, safe and well-presented studios, group exercise spaces and equipment.
• Communicate with customers about current programs, activities and services.
• Complete required documentation, including pre-exercise questionnaires and relevant records.
• Respond to customer requests and feedback professionally and in a timely manner.

You will have:

• A recognised qualification or certification relevant to the specialist program/s you intend to deliver, such as Pilates, Reformer, Yoga, Zumba or another recognised wellness program approved by AusActive.
• The ability to confidently deliver safe, engaging and inclusive classes within your area of expertise.
• Current First Aid Certificate.
• Current CPR Certificate.
• Current Working with Children Check.
• Fitness registration with an Australian-based organisation, or willingness to obtain this within 3 months of employment.
• Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to changing operational needs.
• Evidence of full unrestricted working rights in Australia.

Applicants with qualifications and experience in Reformer/Pilates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Remuneration

The hourly rate for this opportunity is $44.14, Grade E, Step 1, plus 25% casual loading and 12% superannuation.

Where you facilitate Group Fitness Classes, you will be paid $70.00 per hour (inclusive of your ordinary hourly rate, 25% casual loading, any applicable penalty, and an additional payment).

If a group fitness class or personal training session runs for less than one hour, the applicable hourly rate will be paid on a pro-rata basis.

For all other work performed outside of facilitating Group Fitness Classes, the ordinary hourly rate plus 25% casual loading will apply.
