Your Opportunity
Tenterfield Shire Council is establishing a talent pool of versatile Administration and Customer Service Officers to assist with short-term staff shortages due to leave, illness or unusual changes in work demand, based across our Administration Building and Council Depot.
You'll be the friendly face and voice of Council, delivering accurate and efficient clerical, cashier, reception, record keeping, administration, banking and telephone support. More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing quality frontline customer service and handling face-to-face and telephone enquiries professionally and courteously
- Receipting EFTPOS, direct deposit, Post Billpay, Bpay and credit card payments, and balancing and reconciling receipts each day
- Registering companion animals and maintaining the online register
- Setting up Council Chambers and Committee Room for meetings and functions
- Preparing correspondence, reports and forms, and undertaking photocopying, scanning, collating, binding and laminating
- Maintaining stationery supplies, registers and customer service records
- Preparing and processing outgoing mail (folding, sealing and recording postage), plus daily delivery and collection of mail from the Post Office
- Assisting with banking, including balancing takings and end-of-day reconciliations
- Assisting other departments with customer service and administrative duties as directed
To qualify, you will need a Certificate III in Business or Administration, or prior experience in a customer service and administrative support role. You'll also bring:
- Demonstrated experience in cash handling
- Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and database applications
- Experience performing general office tasks including answering telephones, responding to enquiries, electronic filing, scanning and collating documents
- Ability to coordinate tasks, set priorities and work to timelines in a pressured and changing environment, with sound problem-solving skills
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills, and the ability to relate to people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds
- A current Class C Australian Driver's Licence
Previous Local Government experience will be highly regarded but is not essential.
