  • This role plays a major part in assisting to maximise collection of all property and other charges levied by Council.
  • The ideal candidate will enjoy providing rates and property information, maintaining Council’s rating and property system and providing helpful and efficient customer service.

About this opportunity

You will maintain the rating system of the Murrindindi Shire Council under the supervision of the Rates & Revenue Coordinator.  You will be valued for your knowledge and expertise in Computer proficiency in the MS Office suite, especially Excel.

In this role you will:

  • Ensure Council’s service standards are met, customer’s requests are handled efficiently in a knowledgeable, confidential and timely manner ensuring delivery is responsive and customer centric.
  • Ensure property transfers, boundary changes, account enquiries and advice of sale from settlement agencies are processed accurately.
  • Maintain and update Council’s rating and property database and name and address register (NAR) database ensuring ongoing integrity of the data in accordance with procedures and processes outlined by the relevant legislation, and council procedures.
  • Maintain pensioner/senior records and lodge claims to the Department of Health and Human Services for pensioner rebate claims.
  • Raise interim notices for waste collection charges and property valuation changes.
  • Provide regular reporting and reconciliations of funds collected and funds remitted as they relate to the collection of the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund (ESVF).
  • Maintain accurate and up to date voter’s information.  Assist with the preparation of voter’s lists and rolls as required.
  • Assist the Rates & Revenue Co-ordinator in the preparation of information in a timely manner.

What will you bring

By joining our team, ideally, you will bring:

  • Previous experience in rates administration with knowledge and proficiency in personal computer software and Council programs for property management, mapping and financial processing.
  • Strong communication skills with previous experience in a customer focussed role with capacity to resolve complaints.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills including general accounting and reconciliation skills, with attention to detail to ensure data accuracy.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and protect privacy.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
