Council seeks an experienced Finance Coordinator to lead and coordinate Council’s financial operations and supervise the Finance team.

Working closely with the Director Corporate Services and Council’s executive leadership, the role is responsible for supporting accurate and timely financial reporting, budget preparation, audit requirements, legislative compliance and continuous improvement. The Finance Coordinator will also provide financial advice and analysis to support informed decision-making and Council’s long-term financial sustainability.

Key responsibilities

The position will:

• Coordinate month-end and year-end financial processes
• Oversee reconciliations, reporting and financial records
• Assist with annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts
• Monitor financial performance and budget variations
• Coordinate audit documentation and responses
• Support financial policies, procedures and internal controls
• Supervise, mentor and support Finance team members
• Identify opportunities to improve financial systems and processes
• Assist with asset accounting and fleet and plant financial management.

About you

Applicants must hold a tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline and have demonstrated finance or accounting experience. Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, confidence using Microsoft Excel and the ability to supervise or mentor team members are also essential.

Previous local government experience is desirable but not essential. Council welcomes applications from candidates with experience in public practice, commercial organisations, government accounting or other industries who are willing to develop their knowledge of local government finance.
